UNH HeartCode Basic Life Support (BLS)

This course is only for current UNH Students/Staff with valid ID.

The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Who should take this course?

The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

What does this course teach?

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
  • Important early use of an AED
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device
  • Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

What is HeartCode?

This CPR certification course will be conducted using a blended-learning format called "HeartCode BLS" (Part 1 - Online; Part 2 – Hands-On Session with Instructor). 

 HeartCode 

1) Complete Part 1 of the HeartCode BLS course online and bring your completion certificate along when you come to the classroom to complete the hands-on portion. The online portion takes approximately 90-100 minutes to complete and is included as part of the cost of this class

2) Attend the Hands-On session with the McGregor EMS training center at the time/date specified, and complete Part 2: a 1-2 hour hands-on skills practice and testing session with a BLS Instructor.

3) Successful completion of both parts (online and instructor-led) is required for certification.

 

To Complete Part One: 

  1. Press the "Continue with Registration" button at the bottom of this page, then fill out the registration form. Pay careful attention to spelling as this will be what is printed on your certification card.
  2. Once you have registered, you'll receive an email containing your personal keycode that will take you to the online course.
  3. Create an AHA account.
  4. Complete the online course.
  5. Print your certificate and bring it with you when you come to our Training Center for Part 2.
