AHA BLS Instructor Recertification Workshop

The AHA BLS Instructor Recertification Workshop is intended for current AHA instructors affiliated with McGregor EMS. This program will meet AHA requirements for instruction observation time. Workshops are facilitated by the TCC or Training Center Faculty.

Each participant is required to teach a segment of the BLS discipline.

Candidates who complete this course and meet all AHA requirements will be recertified as an AHA BLS Instructor.

CPR/AED

This course is designed to prepare students to provide First Aid+CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Heartsaver courses are intended for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements. These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.

After successfully completing this course, students should be able to:

  • List the priorities, roles, and responsibilities of the first aid rescuer

  • Explain the concepts of the Chain of Survival

  • Describe the assessment and first aid actions for the following life-threatening conditions: heart attack, difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, and stroke

  • Safely use an epinephrine pen

  • Recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid rescuers

  • Describe how high-quality CPR improves survival

  • Perform high-quality CPR for an adult, both alone and as a team member during multi-rescuer care (child and infant CPR modules are optional)

  • Give effective breaths using mouth-to-mouth or a barrier device for all age groups

  • Proficiently use an AED on an adult (child and infant AED modules are optional)

  • Describe when and how to help a choking adult or child (infant choking module is optional).

First Aid

This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid to meet job, regulatory or other requirements.

Course Content:

  • First aid basics

  • Medical emergencies

  • Traumatic Injuries

  • Environmental emergencies

Course Format:

Classroom-based (instructor, with skills test conducted throughout)

Features:

  • Instructor-led, hands-on class format reinforces skills proficiency

  • Student manual comes with a new Heartsaver First Aid Quick Reference Guide that summarizes first aid actions for many injuries and illnesses

  • Course is updated as new science is developed to ensure best care is given

Upon successful completion of the course, including a first aid skills demonstration and a CPR and AED skills test, students will receive a Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course completion card that is valid for two years.

McGregor EMS and CPR Safe strive to make our community a better and safer place to live. We do not want anyone to be unable to attend this training due to financial hardship. Candidates who complete this course and meet all AHA requirements will be recertified as an AHA Heartsaver Instructor.

This course is designed to certify individuals who are looking to, or already babysit. The minimum age requirement for this course is 11 years old.  Upon completion of this class individuals will receive a CPR and First Aid certification. 

Course Content:

  • Safety

  • How to handle emergencies

  • Care and feeding of infants and children

  • CPR and First Aid training

  • Business aspects of being a babysitter

All students will receive a Babysitting Certification upon completion. Course encompasses a 5-hour agenda, so students should bring a snack, drink and lunch. Participants will be with the instructor for the entire duration of time. Students should also have parent contact information.  

Note: CPR Certification is valid for two years
